December 10th UPDATE: Early Dismissal Announced!
(10:40 am) Due to the current conditions, additional snow expected, along with a drop to freezing temperatures, I have decided to have an early dismissal this afternoon. Sickles students will be dismissed at 12:35 p.m., followed by Knollwood at 12:45. All after school activities are canceled, including after-care, our afternoon (PM) Kindergarten classes, and recreation programs scheduled for this evening. A Honeywell alert has been sent to all parents notifying them of this. I ask for your patience and understanding this afternoon when arriving on campus to pick up your child. The safety of our children and staff is our priority. Drive safely and slowly.
Thank you. Nelson Ribon Superintendent of Schools
Tuesday, December 10th - Inclement Weather Update
(7:50 a.m.) Our schools will be operating under a regular school day schedule today. We will continue to monitor the forecast, weather conditions and review updates from the Borough on the conditions of our roads and sidewalks. The forecast currently calls for a 2 to 3 hour window of snow during school hours and will taper off by dismissal time. Our maintenance crew is prepared to handle the 2-4 inches expected to fall while we are in session and will begin clearing our lots and sidewalks while our students are in class. If conditions deteriorate and the forecast changes throughout the day, then a consideration would be made for an early dismissal if need be. We value the safety of our students and staff and keep that at the forefront when making a decision on a change to a school day schedule.
With that said, we ask for extra patience, reduced speed when driving near or on our schools' property during inclement weather days, along with an understanding that many factors are taken into consideration on unique weather days such as todays in our decision-making process.
Thank you. Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable day.
Nov 1st Update
Happy November and the start to our holiday season! This new month follows a wonderful Halloween day celebration that was very well attended by the parents and loved ones of our kindergarten through 5th grade students.
Congratulations to Coach Karen Florio and Knollwood girls’ soccer team for completing an undefeated 13-0 season culminated with an MCISSL championship on October 30th. This is Knollwood’s fourth consecutive girls soccer championship. During the past three seasons, the team has compiled a 37-1-1 record. It is no surprise that the wonderful support the team receives from our school community members throughout the season is a huge motivator! The team will be recognized at our upcoming Board of Education meeting on the 20th at 7:30 p.m.
Congratulations to Knollwood’s cross-country team for completing their inaugural season this past month. We had a wonderful group of boys and girls participate and their efforts made our school and community proud. Thank you Coaches Jarosinski & Wallace and our students for your dedication and high levels of enjoyment throughout. I am so pleased to have added this new sport to Knollwood.
Thank you to our Knollwood parents for your cooperation and support with our “Google Accounts for Education” initiative for our grade 4-8 students. We are excited to be working with Google and its products, for the potential that exists and the opportunities it will create for our students and staff. We will be scheduling a parent information meeting on this initiative later this month.
We are very proud to have our Knollwood band participating in this year’s Veteran’s Day Program in Memorial Park. We look forward to this wonderful community event.
Thank you to our Education Foundation for your support and shared vision. Please consider supporting their large yearly fund raiser that will be held on November 16th so they can continue their efforts in funding technology upgrades and initiatives for our teachers and students in both schools.
We are excited to welcome once again the Mayor and Borough Council to Knollwood on November 25th for their yearly meeting starting at 1:00 in the All-Purpose Room. This is a great educational opportunity for many of our students in attendance, as well as residents visiting our school.
On behalf of our leadership team, we send our best wishes to all of students, staff, their families and our community members for a healthy, safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Fair Haven Again Named as Model Program for World Language Instruction
The Fair Haven School District once again has been named by the State Department of Education as having a Model Program for World Language Instruction. The 2012-14 model program award was based upon a submitted written application, a full-day site visit to Sickles and Knollwood, and interviews with administrators, teachers, parents and students. As a model district, our schools will serve as a resource for other districts in the state and will enable educators to witness firsthand exemplary practices in world language instruction and assessment. Only a handful of districts statewide qualify for model program status so we are very proud of this achievement. Congratulations to our incredible world language staff and for Mrs. Spears who spearheaded this initiative.
